Aston-Martin is taking the wraps off the V12 Zagato for the first time at a mainstream event – at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The Zagato premiered for the first time at the Villa D’Este Concours in Italy in May, before racing on the Nürburgring track in Germany during multiple events, despite still being a concept car. Aston Martin says that this race car concept will be the one displayed at Frankfurt, although it released the first images of a road car variant set to go into production in the middle of next year August 25. The Frankfurt International Motor Show runs September 15-25 in Frankfurt, Germany. ![]() HIGH DESIGN :: RIVA ISEO
![]() CLASSIC ART :: ANDY WARHOL – FIRST SELF PORTRAIT
Andy Warhol’s very first self portrait sold for a remarkable $38.44 million at Christie’s post-war and contemporary art auction. His “Self-Portrait,” a four-panel acrylic silk-screen from 1963-64 in hues of blue depicting the pop artist wearing a trench coat and sunglasses, was sold by the family of Detroit collector Florence Barron, who commissioned the work for $1,600 nearly half a century ago, making payments on an installment plan. Two highly qualified, wealthy, and determined bidders competed in a 16-minute bidding. “I really believe my mother-in-law would have been ecstatic,” Nora Barron said after the sale. “She loved the picture, she loved Andy and I truly believe she would have loved tonight,” she told Reuters. The auction was dominated by eight Warhols, which took in a total of $91 million. This was Christie’s highest sale since May 2008 totaling $301.68 million, beating the pre-sale estimate while setting records for several artists. Less than a handful of the 65 works did not sell off the floor. Christie’s had an extraordinary high sell-through rate of 95 percent.
